Montblanc Personalities Special Edition Tribute to The Great Gatsby Fountain Pen

Certain novels go down in literary history and, at the same time, become the symbol of an entire era. F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby is one of those modern gems of American literature. Published in 1925, the novel fascinatingly portrays the Jazz Age and the Roaring Twenties, a period of unprecedented prosperity and excess.

Vibrant New York, the opulent mansions of Long Island and the dazzling parties of high society are the backdrop to the story of Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire who will do everything possible to regain the affection of the lost love of his youth, Daisy Buchanan. The dazzling New York and the Gatsby era, when art deco skyscrapers glittered in the blue night skies, inspired the design of Great Personalities Special Edition Homage to The Great Gatsby.

The surface of the barrel, created as a nod to one of Montblanc's first writing instruments from the Art Deco era, is decorated using a special technique and seems to reflect the tall, illuminated facades of the flourishing city. The fluorescent Montblanc emblem on the top of the cap, which shines like the green light on the landing stage of Daisy's house without any device, captures and stores the light during the day so that it can shine in the dark. The clear power of money is symbolised in the edition by the platinum-plated clip that takes the form of a money clip. Its rounded opening shines with Jay Gatsby's initials in the form of a rhomboidal gold-plated Art Deco monogram.

The myth of the American dream and the design of the often elegant flasks of the Art Deco period are reflected in the cap, which imitates the screw-top of a flask, and in the fine rings in the colours of the American flag that surround it. The essence of the fulfilled American dream is revealed when the cap is removed from the edition and the handcrafted rhodium-plated 585 gold nib can be seen.

It is decorated with an image of Jay Gatsby's luxurious car, described with enthusiasm by F. Scott Fitzgerald as a car of a deep cream colour, with glittering chrome and a labyrinth of successive windshields that reflected a dozen suns.
